"Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of Circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of Chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul."-- W. E. Henley
Dear Kids, I really believed, for several years, that Colin Powell had a shot at the white house. He made a fatal mistake when he ignored his conscience and sided with the neocons (although he wasn't one himself)
Now comes this kid, Barak. First time I heard him speak at the democratic convention... well, let's just say the speech could have been written by Kennedy himself (Jack, not that old goat, Teddy)
will he win? I think that' the wrong question.
The question should be:
Is the America we have right now,
the America of Martin Luther King, Jr.
or the America of Rush Limbaugh?
Blacks. They are fascinating. Someday, I hope you'll read their history, their struggle, their triumph and will enjoy doing so as much as I did.
So, are the SOULMEN ready for a Brother/Commander-in-chief? I don't know. I watch the primaries with detachment since I'm not a citizen and I'm not Black (although I have rhythm and SOUL)
But deep inside, for the sake of their history, I know I'm rooting for Obama.
sabi nga nila:
"...how can a man die better
than by facing fearful odds,
for the ashes of his fathers,
and the temples of his gods?"
Rock ON, BAROCK!!!

T'was a good fight. But let's face it, there will never be an African-American sitting at the oval office --- at least, not in this generation.
my sentiments exactly, Pre.
